NABU's Kranichzentrum has operated photography hides (Fotoverstecke) at the Günzer Vogelwiesen since 2004 — each hide usable by one person only. Positioned specifically for close-approach crane photography during the peak autumn migration staging period. The daily ritual of thousands of cranes flying at dawn to feeding grounds and returning at sunset is one of Germany's most spectacular wildlife events. White-tailed eagle hunting over the crane roost common. Book via kraniche.de. Season strictly September–October only.
